Seven-Year Old Investor Beats Harvard’s Endowment Fund

Seven-year old Riley Taylor was eating chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast.

I put a piece of paper in front of her. It contained a list of seventeen countries. Each represented a different country’s stock market index fund.

“Riley, please pick five of these countries,” I asked.

She chose Japan first. “I chose Japan because I really like dumplings,” she said.

Riley picked Italy next. “Gelato comes from Italy,” she said. “And I really like Gelato.”

She followed up with three other countries: Canada, Singapore and France.

Great Post! So it doesn’t matter which stock you pick?!

As a buyer of your books, Id like to go with your recommendations but having opened an account on Internaxx I am having trouble finding the ETFs in your European Portfolio for people planning on retiring in Europe.

    The portfolio in your book:
iShares MSCI Europe (Accumulating) — SMEA
iShares Core MSCI World ETF (Accumulating) Currency listed in USD — SWDA
iShares Gov Bond 1-3 yr Euro — CBE7

On Internaxx I have to select the stock exchange, so LONDON for example. But ticker symbols are different:
ISHARES III PLC ISHARES MSCI EUROPE UCITS ETF EUR (ACC) — IMEA
ISHARES III PLC ISHRS CORE MSCI WORLD ETF USD (ACC) — IWDA (This one is listed in USD)
ISHARES VII PLC ISHRS EUR GOVT BOND 1-3YR ETF EUR (ACC) — CBE3

Can you just confirm that this is the correct portfolio?! Thanks Andrew and sorry for the hassle, want to make sure. Also that this is a good portfolio for European planning on retiring in Europe. I want to get started and not have to make any changes, invest and forget!

    Thanks

    • Hi Joseph,

On Internaxx, you should have access to the ETFs I listed in my book. Call Internaxx if you are concerned.

That said, the ETFs you listed would suffice as well.

      Cheers,
      Andrew
