When investors ask me, "What percentage should I have in stocks and what percentage should I have in bonds?" I say, "I don't know." To provide an answer is to imply knowledge of somebody else's emotional fortitude. And few people (if any) know their tolerance for risk until they've been tested. Your allocation has more to do with emotions than performance. So respect what you might not know about yourself.
